BoulderCreek

Hey All,

Here is the full video on the animated door as well as building, painting and weathering.

I'm working on a series of videos on similar topics to this that will be submitted to TMTV and if they like them you should be able to eventually see some more like this over there as well. It was heaps of fun building this model and I'm definitely looking forward to improving on this in the future.

If you have any questions or would like extra info please don't hesitate to ask

Cheers
Luke

Sliding Door

ha ha ha  I'm glad to have helped you figure out your clearance problem, it's amazing what ideas can be sparked from a model forum (I'm guessing the overhead door you're talking about is not 1:87th scale).

The mechanism for operating the door could be applied to a huge range other applications, I've got plans to make many different animated features for my small switching layout.

Lovely work. Love

Lovely work. Love animatronics. Fantastic detail.

Thos only a suggestion, but you just need a fella mounted to the door itself just inside the opening, so someone is “pushing” it open  or “pulling”  it closed.

You wouldn’t be able to see them from this camera angle, but more head on or on the left side of the building you would see into the opening...

Otherwise I get the feeling there’s a ghost opening the door, if that makes sense?

Sweet!

Luke,

Great video with some wonderful ideas.  I've automated an overhead roll up door but never thought about doing a sliding door.  Thanks for sharing!

Is there a post anywhere about your automated roll-up?  I've got three fixed doors in an enginehouse, and I'd love to see how you did yours - making those three doors open would really rock!

Ouch!

Here's an idea.  Wouldn't it be neat if the baggage doors on my ACR Tour of the Line train opened when we get to a station, so the snowmobile operators could load or unload their sleds!  The baggage doors in question were rollups in the 200x period when I rode the train frequently; earlier, they slid sideways from inside the car.  Now I've got to scratch my head some more.  This could be done with a DCC receiver and a small motor, or perhaps more than one motor, if we somehow use the function outputs to select which door.  Hmm.  Thanks for the ideas!

But then, we'd need operating snow sleds to animate this properly.  Hmm.

Blair (Anyone built a working snowblower in HO?  Idea triggered by this thread, and the 6" of fresh snow in my driveway.  Winter's here, apparently.  BRRRR!)
