To all railroad historians and Southern Pacific Railroad(SP) fans: When was the last time the Espee used EMD SW-1200 locomotives(switchers) for duty? When was the last time the Espee used cabooses for duty? Wendell

I didn't even know SP used

I didn't even know SP used SW1200's but SP was too big for me to fully comprehend and why despite growing up in SP territory, I switch to D&RGW which did own SW1200's.  Or did SP inherit SW1200's from D&RGW after D&RGW bought the SP systems?

Last caboose?

I don't know exactly as a few were kept around for special use but most caboose were retired in the early 1980's . I recall seeing SW1200 or maybe SW1500 engines about that same time. Was a neat era for train watching ...DaveB

Rebuilt to SW1200E

You'll find most heading to other pastures around 1985-86. Rochester & Southern got one then. They are sitting in deadlines at rebuilders by then also.

Cabooses are another story. Last ones built in 1980 but within a few years, starting to be phased out. There are still some in 1987, lasting longer than the SW1200s.

SW-1200 locomotives

To Jim Fitch: The Southern Pacific had their own SW-1200 locomotives before they merged with the Rio Grande according to the http://www.railpictures.net website. The Southern Pacific and Denver & Rio Grande Western railroads merged together in 1988. Wendell
