Having submitted a few ideas in the past I had to take everyone’s knowledgeable input and leverage some strong thinking ( yeah I know the smell of burned rubber is pungent ) into the less is more concept and looking at space and time constraints and how to fit this into my current work schedule.

The ANYWHERE Limited Layout Part. 2

This plan ( Designed by Robert Chant 2014 ) is a small HO Scale 18" X 72" plan initially. I would like to expand the width to 28" adding 5" to both sides for fitting buildings . Each module will be sized 28”x 36” to fit in a 28” x 72” bunk bed area in my trailer and to work on each module separately ). I would like to also include some form of concrete bridge to the left side to cover any wall access used for the cassette staging track and to give a method of belief that this industrial spot has a reason to exist. The industry is located near a very large bridge and road improvement site that is expected to last for 3+ plus years hence the need for being very close to the construction and the overall need for the building materials.

Industries supported:

Concrete Production Plant ( Material source for Ready Mix Concrete Plant )

Ready Mix Concrete Plant  ( Bridge and road Construction )

Fuel/Oil Distribution Site  ( Vehicle/Locomotive Support )

Road Asphalt Production Site to include Aggregate Unloading Site/Tank Car

Possible Team Track ( All other materials handling ( Steel, vehicles and such )

Engine Storage/Maintenance Facility for Switcher ( local storage and maint. )

The allure of this type of small switching layout for me is fundamentally it could be anywhere with any railroad be it Class I to Class III or even company owned switcher using any date period the builder wanted. I guess it could be best described as location and time neutral.

Changes to the pictured industries would need to be made.

The Frozen Food would become the Concrete Ready Mix Plant

( receiving product from the concrete plant itself )

The Team Track Area would become the Concrete Plant itself

( receiving materials and producing concrete products for the ready mix plant )

The Oil Dealer would remain

( receiving and delivering fuel and oil products to  various needs )

The Beverage dealer becoming an asphalt production facility

( receiving materials both gondola and tanker generating truck loads for transit)

The Overhead Crane area becoming the new Team Track Area

( receiving any and all industrial support such as steel or machinery )

The Engine Service area would remain, receiving fuel from the local distributor and a storage place for the local switcher assigned to the businesses.

This plan fits my space needs, ( travel trailer while at work on the boards ) along with the idea of building something even if it is a chainsaw build. I want to build it in two modules for ease of care/maintenance and to allow it to be built in stages using the TOMA method. The split would conflict with the plans placement of the switches in the center but moving those just a bit shouldn’t pose too much of a problem. Locomotive and car requirements are pretty light with two types of tank cars, short 2 bay hoppers, maybe a few flatcars and gondolas being used with spares for switching coming in from a cassette staging track on the left side. I would like to include some form of formal operations but not sure what kind/how.

I know 28” deep seems a bit of a stretch but at 52” from the floor I can make this with little or no problem and no track goes that deep for the old 0-5-0 move. Any help in this making it work would be greatly appreciated.
