I just want to pull the cab off of a recent two-truck HO Bachmann Spectrum Climax. Removing the obvious two screws on the bottom loosens the cab but, it doesn't fall free! Something in there is hanging up! Bachmann's exploded parts diagram is of no use either.

Short of blindly disassembling the entire drivetrain to expose the boiler and frame screws, does anyone happen to know if there is in fact an simple way to remove the darn thing?

(Not real eager to give it a HARD yank!)

Grab Irons and Piping

Some of thepiping goes through holes in the front of the cab. Also the side grab irons might need to be removed. Could also just be paintor glue sticking.

The design on these seems to have changed over the years, so it is hard to know for sure...

tried that...

I pulled the tender box and STILL couldn't see the restriction... doesn't seem to be the rear headlamp wiring. I managed to back out the plastic piping and handrails... the cab lifts straight up about 1/8" and then hangs up. Can't see or feel what is restraining it from raising further. Peaking through from below doesn't reveal any obvious place  where a fastener might  be. It feels like the front wall of the cab is sliding up in a slot on the boiler ahead of the firebox details, but I can't see how to remove that plastic detail either... I guess I will try major demo this weekend.

Success...

Finally got it off. Ended up just using a LOT of steady force to pull cab straight up, after removal of two screws and underneath and bending/withdrawing handrails, etc from front of cab. Wires to rear lamp are short! Cab only lifts up even with top of boiler! Never did figure out how to release it...
