Very nice

Mine is at home while I'm away at work until May 10th.  It arrived in the mail about an hour after I left for the airport.  Looking very forward to getting it and running it around.

Rapido GMD SW1200RS

Hi I got mine last week (April 20) in the green and yellow paint scheme number 1329 and I love it. It is a superb model in all aspects and the ESU sound is awesome.

Have you contacted Rapido yet?  I have no doubt they will make it right.  I got photos of mine, but still won't see it in person for another 9 days!!

I did, Dave.

Just waiting for their response. I suspect this loco was still around sitting in a hobby shop due to its condition. I usually have to tweak and repair Rapido products, but this time it is something I can't fix. I sure miss the days going into the hobby shop and examining the product, but with this preordering thing nowadays, it's become a gamble.

Looking forward to seeing yours.

China QC

it's more and more a problem with 'made in china' products - not only Railroad RTR-models. Simply NO QC and it must be EXPENSIVE for companies to put things right.... if already they are willing to do so !

Because of all negative experiences I had, now I simply avoid buying products made in PRC.

It's high time for companies to put things strait... and maybe 'motivate' Chinese workers in a more respectful way!

Up to you to read between the lines

Knew they'd fix it

Glad to hear it, Dee.  I got mine a couple weeks ago while I was out of town for work, so after returning a couple days ago I finally got to test it out.  Runs like a dream.  I muted the sound by accident once and it was the quietest loco I think I've ever heard.  I have to stage my old modules now to get a picture of it.

@Dave,

I do look forward to seeing it on your modules. Will be you be weathering it?

I'll be mailing my model to Rapido in late June so before then I think I will decal my Rapido CN steel caboose.

Is your caboose a Rapido or brass model?

I have one of each:

Today I mailed the model.

Thanks for the reminder

I posted a pic in my blog but forgot to post one here.  Here it is on what are now my former modules.  I found someone who didn't have a layout and gave the modules to him, so these are the last photos of those modules I have:

_by_side.jpg The GMD1 and SW1200RS above, and from the backside below:

The weathering on the two locos and caboose is done by Rob Arsenault at WeatherMyTrains.com.  I did the remaining cars.  The caboose is the TLT caboose.

I was informed by Rapido that

I was informed by Rapido that they only had a few replacement chassis in stock for the unique steam style numbered SW1200RS 1335 I sent them, but they did not meet their quality standards for replacement hence they offered a replacement, but of a different number. I accepted even though the SW1200RS with the number I will be getting wasn't assigned to the region I model. but it is the right paint scheme.

You could

renumber it, though I can't remember if the SW1200RS comes with decals like the other locos from Rapido.  I know they were discontinuing including decals with the models due to cost and so few people using them.

Unfortunately it doesn't come with decals especially the steam style numerals. Also the number boards and other smaller numbers would have to be redone. Yikes!

I don’t understand.

If the chassis (frame?) isn’t right, why not exchange chassis and keep the shell that has the right number???

Good question.

The model I sent them is DC with steam style numerals. Maybe they can't or don't want to take the shell off of the DC one and put it on the chassis of the DCC one, that they offered me. I tried to call today, but they are closed, but left them an email.

Hi Dee,

That’s great news!!!!   Makes me look forward to my Rapido RDC even more now!

P. S.  Think NCE Power Cab Throttle (DCC) as the same quality and same levels of support if you wish.

To make a long story short,

To make a long story short, got the SW1200RS, still had a warped chassis, damaged handrails, and basically not up to my standard so I just got rid of it instead of the hassle of paying postage out of my pocket again to send something back defective and having to wait four months for it only to be disappointed. Lesson learned; only purchase what I can visually inspect.

Hmm

I would still send Rapido a note.  That isn't the kind of service I've received from them in the past.  The one defective loco I sent back came back in pristine condition, along with a couple of extras for my trouble.

Glad it worked out for you.

Glad it worked out for you. For me it has always been a hit and miss though I did get some little extras, which are of no use to me so I'll probably donate them to a local club. I'm moving on to a new quest for the ideal loco for my 74 locale/era collection.

Cheers
