Seepy Creek

I've subscribed to this fabulous magazine since it started and it's just now I've noticed reference of glory to a god.
I'm unsure what one exactly, but I'll guess it's the Judeo - Christian one.

Does this magazine have any connection to a religious organisation?
Because if it does, I'm unsubscribing because religion and people acting on behalf of it have brought me some bitter memories in the past and I will want no part of it.

Model Railroading is my happy place.

sincerely,

S.C.

Any examples? I myself

Any examples? I myself haven't come across anything that would be considered proselytizing or preaching.

I think it is Joe's personal religeous testimony.

As far as I know it is not connected to any specific denomination (at least Joe has never mentioned a denomination).  It is found only on the page about the individuals who put out the magazine.  This magazine is a business owned by Joe Fugate, and not connected to any religous organization.  You have subscribed to the magazine since its inception and you just noticed this little blurb?  Ignore it, and keep enjoying model trains.  The magazine is free.

No catchy heading for this

The only place I've ever seen this refered to is on the staff credits page in the front of the mag.  Small, non-descript text at the bottom "Published for the Glory of God".  That's it.  There's even a link that takes you to a page where Joe explains why it's there.  However, as it is in this great country of the U.S.A., to each his own.  If it bothers you, that's your priveledge to make a decision in that regards.  Handle it as you see fit.  I do not participate in any religious activites and have no issue with those who do.  You can make your feelings known to me, and I will respect those feelings - just don't preach to me. I draw the line there.  I don't see that anywhere evident with the magazine nor any of the staff or their acting on behalf of it.   And yes, it is a fabulous magazine.

I believe there is a reference in the magazine

Joe F. is a believer; however, I hope that you can overlook what you find offensive to enjoy the excellent magazine.

Might be a good idea for the mods to close this thread, as already I can forsee someone being offended, as someone already has made a generalization and unfounded claim in regards to folks that lack the belief or disbelief in a god.

Enjoy the magazine S.C.

Not the only one

Used to be a lot, and many still do, have referance up front under the staff section of the magazine.   Does it make it any better or any worse?  that is up to each reader........

Happy Easter everyone

I don't think I understand. Are you offended by the fact that the magazine makes that one reference to a diety and you might see it, or are you offended that somone involved with publishing the magazine is also a person of faith? Or is it something else?

I am genuinely interested in what it is.

It's there, you have to look for it..

However, it's not pushed on anyone.

Now, I can't imagine what you may have experanced in the past, but I can tell you that this magazine, forum and the rest are as open as you can imagine. The faith here is Model Railroading and all the wonder that comes with it. Everything else is left at the door.

I thought this is supposed to be a tolerant age?

We’re supposed to understand that not everyone thinks like we do. That even applies to atheists.

But then again, in all honesty, I have to admit that if I encountered a magazine that said it was dedicated to atheism, or Satanism or Ba-al/ Mollach worship I guess I wouldn’t subscribe.

Difference between eastern and western world view

The eastern world view sees people as integrated beings and religious beliefs are just a part of who you are. You can be real.

In the west, some parts of the culture have decided that religious beliefs need to be hidden, never to be revealed in a public setting. You are to be a schizophrenic because that part of you can be distasteful.

We (Joe Fugate and Patty Fugate) take the eastern world view on this point as a Jesus follower. This is who we are, it's a real part of us. We think the west and the trend towards needing to stick this part of who we are in the closet is just plain silly. So we declare it at the front of the magazine down in the corner.

As the link says, this is who we are. We don't insist our friends believe this way, nor do we insist MRH staff believe this way either. We have many trusted non-believing staff and many dear friends who are not believers, but this is who we are.

It means simply this: we believe every one of you are a precious eternal creation of intelligent design (rather than coming from primordial goo and random chance) and should be treated as the priceless marvel you are. Making beautiful creative works (which is what model railroading is) is a pursuit that elevates the spirit and helps add some joy to this fallen world.

We also tell you we're not perfect like He is and for that reason please forgive us when we fail.

It's that simple, this is who we are and what we believe. You do not have to agree. But if being honest offends you, then we're truly sorry you have bought into a naive western worldview trend. Those who live in the eastern hemisphere have the better value on this point.

Since this topic is not the focus of this site, we simply state it in public, and leave it at that. We're locking this thread so we can get back to what this site is about: model railroading.
