So with my schools engineering club doing fundraising now I am considering designing a kit that we could produce more in bulk that we could advertise instead of just individual work. So what are some small building that you would like to see in kit form (what scale/scales too) I am looking for ideas and want to see what is not yet out there.

Mobile homes...

I've recenty been looking for mobile homes, both single wide and double wide. There are some on a paper plans site, a couple of very toy-like plastic rtrs, and that is about all. I'm not interested in airstreams or other 50's designs, but the more modern type that fill parks today.

mobile homes

There are - or used to be - some very convincing 1970's -1980's era mobile homes on Shapeways in n scale.  Nu Comp Miniatures also made some more moderns ones at one point.

HO Scale Subway Station. I

HO Scale Subway Station. I would imagine it would be the base of the building, the back wall, and optional side walls/roof but no front wall.

construction trailers, modular portable offices

I've lasered simple travel trailer models successfully from one-sixteenth inch acrylic.

Besides mobile homes, we need construction trailers (large and small) and modular portable offices in most scales.

Don't neglect On30 (1:48) and S (1:64) scales.

I like the mobile home idea,

I like the mobile home idea, I have some ideas for how that would work out pretty easily and could actually probably have a 25 dollar or so kit. The question now if would you want the interior predetermined for you or left open with no interior walls?

Mobile Home

I really like buildings with interiors but either way would be fine with me. I was under the impression that for the most part mobile home interiors were pretty much choosing one or two of the standard plans then picking your colors and maybe some add ons.

Modern Brick Yard Office/Depot

I would like to see a modern brick yard office/Depot about the same size as the BLMA prefab yard office. That would be cool.

Sears "Kit" Homes

I know there are a couple out there, but I'd really like more of them.  Sears wasn't the only company to produce them, and there are some really nice plans for smaller cottages that used to fill out neighborhoods all over America.

Along those lines, a duplex home would be nice too, though it may not be considered a 'small' structure.

Honestly, I don't want any

Honestly, I don't want any more small structures. There are many available now. What is lacking are medium and a bit larger than medium buildings. In the era I am modeling (1927) there were countless medium sized buildings and medium factories that the railroads served. Many such buildings lasted into the 1960s and 1970s and would be useful for guys modeling into the 2nd generation diesel era.

So something like this?

Will probably only include exterior doors and windows and leave interior up to the kit builder. Also to keep costs down will only include paneling for stored state not including wheels. Though that could be an add-on

My ideas

Though I couldn't use most of these on my layout, I think the following are needed (and some repeated already here)

Moden mobile homes. I'm from Florida originally and in elementary school, I was the only kid who wasn't living in a mobile home (my folks early on decided on brick/concrete block structures). Modern single/doublewides. They're all over the US but not on layouts. Why?

Concrete block structures. Most convenience stores are made of this, as are plenty of others. Also very under-modelled.

Those little stand-alone wood garages with the flip-up door, that were everywhere before the 60s or so. Any old town still has dozens of them (mostly with peeling paint for some reason)

Wood 2 or 3 story flats. Flats are usually brick in kit form today...

Modern sheds. You see them all the time in real life, both metal and sheeted in siding

Accurate chain link fencing. Yeah, some scale have this, but not all. In O scale, you have not too many options and most are toy like.

Different scales. So much is in HO and a lot in N, but O scale is seriously lacking for the basics. And forget S and the other scales.

Here is a sampling of the

Here is a sampling of the types of buildings that I believe we need. All are served by the railroad. We need such on-line customers for our trains to serve.

Double car detached garages

Double car detached garages with low hip roof, in some urban areas, there are a lot of these structures in the back yards with an alley between them and the track, maybe add a wood fence option to complete the backyards.

I would look at what is

I would look at what is already out there and do it better.

I want to see quality telephone booths that actually open and you can put a figure in it.

The "tiny house" craze is huge about how about basically kits with parts so people can kitbash their own tiny house/tree house/etc

I want in HO Scale someone's home ho scale layout becuase when I scratch build my house one day my layout better be in it!
