This was a posting I had made on another forum a goodly number of years ago. Just the other day I returned to this awe inspiring video,..... thought others might fnid it interesting as well, particularly lovers of BIG STEAM

Video, C&O Allegheny Steam

I realize that this is a simulation, but I sure would like to find a sound installation for an Allegheny (Rivarossi) that even closely approached this husky-ness.

Most every thing I've heard in the stock units just doesn't approach this. So where is the best??

Model vs Prototype Sound

Here is a VERY interesting video, the intermingling of the model's sound with that of the real loco.....

Listen to the model sound verses the real loco....about 4:10 minutes into the video
Listen to this real prototype whistle at 7:07 minutes into the video !!!

I don't know why Hornby

I don't know why Hornby issued the 2006 version of this Rivarossi steamer with the wrong sound files.  I couldn't stand the sounds, so out came the otherwise very nice LokSound and I put a Tsunami 'heavy' in mine with the articulated sounds active.  That allowed me access to the hooter whistle which is what the H-8 had.

I'm thinking i will NEVER get

I'm thinking i will NEVER get this sound out of the model, so maybe I should just record this onto a disc and play it thru a good HiFi (with subwoofer) in the train room on those occasions I am running my Alleghenys (or other long articulates)

Video with Hi Fi

Brian...years ago I acquired a DVD of the Allegheny back in it's full glory. It was recorded in stereo, and in somewhat high quality ( for a DVD ). The near track run-by was incredible with my then component system with its 15" and 20" woofer speakers ! Ground shaking is putting it lightly. Now you got me wanting to dig thru all my old DVD's to try and find that video and hook it up to experience it again.  I still have those big old speakers sitting out in the garage waiting to go into the corners of the train room...hmmmmm.

Older ESU

I ran across another video the other day that had the newer ESU decoder in it, and it was better than the older Loksound decoders,...both chuff and whistle wise
