I have a question about Phase 2 EMD NW2 switchers built in 1945.

Would 567A engines be in Phase 2 EMD NW2 switchers built in 1945? In later rebuilding upgrade programs, could they be upgraded to 567ACs and would they get an increase in horsepower?

A it is

Yes, I believe all post-war NW2s have 567A blocks. The 567A replaced the original 567U during the war and was used in all subsequent NW2s and later the SW7s. Don't know how many 567As were ever rebuilt. I know of several cases where 567Bs out of retired E8s were put in older switchers. Unless they upgraded the radiator they wouldn't increase the horsepower. It was done sometimes. EMD stopped supporting the 567U and 567A in 1980, so most big roads got rid of their NW2s and SW7s soon after. Yes, I know there are exceptions. I was really surprised to see Conrail still had an SW7 in 1995. Scott Chatfield

Thanks Scott. That what I thought, but I was unsure.
