Dr Dirt

Hi all,

I recently weathered and re-lettered a Mantua 0-6-0 goat switcher to CNJ(yes, not prototypical!),the second one(#3890005,Rio Grande) did not seem to run at all on the test track, even before work  was performed. I did notice however that the color coded wires were not the same, that is in the pin/draw bar connector. No,I have not opened up the loco itself as the power comes from the tender pick-ups.What an I missing here?

Thanks for any help and fewer headaches

Is this DC or DCC ?

If it is DC have your tried one lead on the draw bar and the other on one driver of one side or  the other ?

Usually draw bar (and tender)  is one side of the pickup  and  the engine itself picks up from the opposide.  Are you saying you have a pin connection AND the draw bar connection.

The most obvious thing to check first is the tender trucks.

If one is reversed, you have a short, but if both trucks are reversed, you won't have a complete circuit.

Thanks!

Hi all,

I stared at the darn thing right up until the football games started today

Wires seem fine, soldering is shoddy,...color coding of wiring is aweful!

I'll report back tomorrow.

Thanks folks for your help!

Dr D(I'll wire them for DCC,then weather the bloody things! )
