Atlas Gold Series DCC programming problems

Recently my brother purchased an Atlas Gold Series Diesel loco which comes factory-installed with DCC and sound. After changing some of the sound CVs, we found that the loco would not respond when applying the throttle. Sounds worked fine, but no locomotion. In DC mode, locomotion was fine. Resetting to factory defaults did not help.

A look (search) on some forums revealed that some other modellers experienced the same thing and that they had sent their locos back for repairs. As we stay in South Africa, this did not seem practical and we were resigned to operating the loco in conventional DC mode. Finally, after much disappointment and many hours of trying to reset everything, we changed the loco address from the default of 3 to 16 (just picked a random address) and presto, everything was fine again!

Just thought I would post this "solution" in case someone else had a similar problem. - Doug.

QSI decoders which are fitted

QSI decoders which are fitted to Atlas loco's need more power than a programming track can supply it seems. It is recomended to program on the main or ops programming or add a booster such as Powerpax to the program track. Also helps to turn the DC use off in the decoder and disable the voice reporting to so you can use four digit address.

Atlas Gold programming problems

Have you tried doing a manual reset using the supplied magnet?  The instructions are in the back of the manual, but I believe it says to hold the magnet in the correct location (see your manual for this) and apply 10 volts DC to the unit until you hear the loco say "reset".

Same type of problems

I had some similar problems with an Atlas Gold Series loco. The two suggestions made above are both right on the mark. I added a PowerPax to my programming track and issue was solved. Using the magnet as Rick pointed out did work well to reset the decoder to factory defaults. Although all you need to to is turn off track power, position the magnet and then turn track power back on and hold the magnet there until you hear "reset". Also works in DCC mode on the main.

Programming of my Atlas gold Locomotive

Okay guys..... I must be a complete idiot.....I have done everything. They were programmed once before, now they just sit there and spool up with all the bells and whistles and DO NOT MOVE. I have an NCE home system. I also have used my JMRI with the sprog II. I am completely lost! HELP!

Did you try pressing '6' two

Did you try pressing '6' two or three times to 'start' the loco?

Programming of my Atlas QSI U boats

Well.....I ended up putting them on the mainline, switching power on with the "wand" over the reed switch. It then went to reset. I used my NCE programming track after that. What a pain!

Thanks
