What types of propane and asphalt cars were used between 1975 and 1994? I model in N scale.

round ones

By 1975 all propane was shipped in 33,000 gallon DOT-112 pressure tanks. The super-sized ones, of which only a handful were built, were no longer in propane service. So you have the whalebellies like the ACF car made by Atlas (prototypes built 1964 to 1970, and the straight-barrel designs like the Union Tank made by Athearn. Athearn makes a couple variations. You only want the versions with walkways running along the top and ladders at the end. Those with the ladders on the sides are a post-1998 design. Also, you only want paint jobs that do not have the "spreadsheet" on the sides. This was introduced in 1998. As for asphalt, by 1975 it was mostly carried in 23,000 gallon insulated DOT-111 tanks. Atlas makes an ACF version. I don't recall if Walthers made the Union Tank "Funnel Flow" version in N. They do in HO. I think Athearn has only made uninsulated models in N. Atlas's 25,500 gallon Trinity car is too new for you. There may have still been some asphalt shipped in 10,000 gallon tanks in the 70s but not by the 80s. Scott Chatfield

Spreadsheet

Here's two tank cars, although they are sulphur cars, not LPG cars.  The first one has the newer spreadsheet marking on the right hand end.

The older car has no spreadsheet on the right hand end.

Bonus: One car is from a US company, One car is from a Canadian company.
