I'm looking for recommendations on decoders to replace the noisy stock decoders that are in my two Bachmann RF-16 Sharks. I'm not interested in adding sound to these engines. I'd just like them to run smooth and quiet.

All of my non-sound decoders are NCE, I have not had any issues with them. I only had one go bad, I would recommend them. This one below may drop right in, but hey have many others.

The same here, NCE.

Straightforward, reliable, well documented (NCE and JMRI) and not expensive. You might even consider a multi pack.

As my soundless, early Atlas decoders died I replaced all of them with NCE and then continued on with my Athearn DC units. I finally got ditch lights!

for sound

Several years ago I put a Tsunami-1000 (Baldwin sound obviously) with an MRC 28mm speaker standing on end at the back of the carbody. There's room for it. No milling needed. That fired the sound foward through the body and sounds great. I don't recall if Soundtraxx offers Baldwin sounds in the current Econami or Tsunami-2. You might have to go with a LokSound Select or 4.0. Which are excellent decoders as well. Scott Chatfield

I'll second...

I'll second the Bach-DSL NCE decoder, I've replaced at least one of my Bachmann DCCoB decoders with it, and it's nearly a drop-in replacement. (Some assembly required!). I'm also a fan of the D13SRJ, which was recently redesigned as the smaller D13J, these can be had for $140ish for a 10-pack = $14 per decoder! The only other decoder that I regularly use is the TCS KAT24, where a Keep-Alive is warranted. (e.g. some of the "junkers" that I've fixed up) -Fuzzy

Thanks for the timely info. I just started looking for an upgrade for my GP-7. The NCE looked good - glad to have a confirmation. I was very happy with my NCE stuff when I was in NScale. Still feeling my way along in HO.

I spend most of my money on model trains, the rest, I just waste.
