I just started reading a book about the New York Connecting Railroad (NYCR) that I picked uop this past summer while visiting the Long Island Railroad Museum. It is interesting in that it has coinnection to Sunnyside Yard to what was the once the New Haven railorad by way of the Hellgate Bridge. This book also covers alot of the things I am interested in including passenger operations, car floats, tunnels and bridges.

I had always intended that my new layout would depict a portion of the Northeast Corridor but it seems this might give me a few more options by allowing me to include an offline interchange thru the use of carfloats as well as freight operations thru Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Ther isn't as much of that these days as there once was but given the cost of fuel today this may change.

I have also paid some attention to the rail lines that once ran thru the outer boros of NYC. There were lots of them at one time but most have disappeared leaving few or no traces that they once existed. I am sure most of that was caused by both the urbanization and the deindustrialization of this area. But what could happen to bring certain things back? It's an interesting question as I see it. What do you think?
