Hi to all fellow modelers.

I have been way of the hobby and this forum just because life got in the way. A lot of work in the train shop where I am working for 12 years now, with new portuguese models coming out almost every month.

That, added to the fact the my 3 year old kid wants to play with his dad with LEGO's and Transformer toys as soon as I get back home.. leaves almost no time for trains.

I had to take down the layout I was building, because I had some infiltration issues, and also needed the space to my other hobby: Racing sims, like iRacing - man, I love racing on NASCAR... And that lead into making more videos on Youtube.

So, after watching TOMA series on TMTV I decided to start building a section at a time. But, soon I found I needed to have more sections with trains running at least... I am a founding member of a new MR club in Portugal, and we had a new show this last October.

So, I would like to introduce my newest layout called "Duarte Junction" (Duarte is the name of my kid).

Photos and videos on the next post.

Thanks for your time.

So this is Duarte Junction. A switching layout, without any run-around, that already gave hours on fun on train shows ( I had been in two train show - One in October and another in November.)

Here is a video on my Youtube channel about the show we had in October.

The layout is made up with three sections on 120 x 40 cm. Track plan is quite simple. I use PECO code 83, because it the best "americanized" track I can get here.

Here are two photos of it during track laying:

This needed light, so I built a light valance using LED strips.

Still need to figure out the scenery I am going to do, but I am thinking again on the northeast, in the Autumn (those red and golden trees give a lot of colour to any layout).

Progress on scenery started anyway. I started to weather the track using MIke Confalone's recipe. Used the Tamiya colors on a dark brown track. I like to look of it so far.

To finish this first blog, here is a photo of the layout on the last show.771194_n.jpg

I also been doing some livestreams on my Youtube channel as well. It was two hours of models building, chating and fun!

Welcome Back

Welcome back to the hobby, Luis, it looks like your new layout is coming along great!. It is always interesting to hear from someone from outside of the United States, with details of how you enjoy the hobby in your country. Congratulations, on founding the new club, having club involvement makes the hobby even more enjoyable in my opinion. Keep up the good work, Jim

Welcome back!

I, too, left the hobby for several years (in my case it was an overall disgust from a terrible module group I belonged to when i was young).

I think this says it best for you:

Good to see you're back on the hobby (well, I guess you never left, only a brief pause...)

I'm sure you'll do a great return.

Hoping to see some more pictures soon
