I've been working on some overdue updates to my S Scale model of Philly's 30th Street Station. I put in a concourse featuring a representation of the "Transportation" sculpture and a ticket purchase area. I also put in some LED lighting fed off of an Arduino.

Wow

I went to Drexel U. 40 years ago and commuted thru 30th St for years.

What an ambitious project!  About half the railroad pictures I took back then were from the corner of the parking lot that overlooked the engine facilities and the "highline".

30th street station

Wow, That is fantastic. It is brighter and cleaner than the real station. I was there a couple of times not long ago shipping my son to camp lejeune on the palmetto. Dont forget the war memorial.

Very Nice Work

I have a lot of happy memories of 30th Street. When I was a young guy in Philadelphia I used to grab the Frankford El at Berks Street and ride right to the 30th St stop. The station had a bowling alley, pool tables, book store etc and you could go down to the main line platforms or up to the suburban platforms. If you liked GG1's and MP54's it was wonderful. Some of those Washington and New York trains were enormous. Lots of Florida and Boston trains to spice things up, mail trains too. My uncle and I used to catch the Delaware Park pony express there as well. Lots of suburban routes out of there and for a couple bucks you could railfan in an open window MP54. Good times.

Nostalgia

It was nice to read about the fond memories brought back by the station. Modeling memories was always important to me. I grew up in West Philly and when I worked in the Conrail IT department, I was only a short walk to the station.

30th Street Memories

When I was in college during the Vietnam War, I traveled between home in SC and New Brunswick, NJ on the Southern Crescent.

The trains were packed with military guys.  When we left Union Station in Washington, a couple sat down across from me, a guy in uniform and a cute girl.  They proceeded to neck all the way to 30th Street, not even coming up for air in Baltimore or Wilmington.

As we rolled into 30th Street, they got untangled, and the soldier up to get his duffel.  I thought he was probably on rotation, and she had come to see him off.

i was expecting lots of tears and hugging on the platform.  Instead, she gave him a quick smooch and said, "Nice meeting you!"  And sat down again.  She was just a girl doing her part for the boys in uniform!

Model that!
