My new PC no longer has a Floppy Drive. So I'm unable to install Ship It! Scheduler with out some fancy gymnastics or buying a USB floppy drive from Amazon to install the program.  Anyone know of a program like Ship It! "Scheduler" that is free or downloadable etc. Not in the mood to pay $40 for software I own but can no longer install on the PC do to the fact I no longer have the proper media drive. Something free would be find just messing around with schedules on my layout and the graphic display make it easy to see what is going on.

Work around

You can go to Staples, buy an inexpensive USB flash drive from them, and they should have the necessary eqpt. to copy over the floppy to the flash drive and will usuaully do so for free.

JMRI

If you don't mind a learning curve, JMRI is free.

Also, have you contacted Albion Software? Perhaps they will trade you a CD for your floppy disk.

They will not.

They will not.  You need to buy a new product.  This is why a quit using it years ago.

Does JMRI have something that will give you schedule like this?  I'm not using ship it or any computer based program to run car traffic.  I'm just after something that will give me an easy to use schedule like this?

Skip It!

Let sleeping dogs lie.

I think there was a thread and a program here that could be used.  It might be worth googling.

Looking at what you have makes me wonder if a cheap set of colored pencils and an Excel spread sheet might be more fun...

Easy Model Railroad Inventory

EMRI could do bar graphs of a schedule.  It's a GREAT program (Thanks Bob Langer!) for tracking your equipment, producing a list for insurance (I just did that last week), creating and printing car cards, and planning and implementing simple operations.  I really enjoy the program.

There is a thread here on MRH that has a download link.   https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/easy-model-railroad-inventory-12201359

It is adjustable.  I can

It is adjustable.  I can change a time and it will adjust on the chart.  I'm working up a simple time table and working with a movable adjustable/chart like this helps.  I can see we have a meet in a spot with no siding etc. so I can adjust and have a train hold etc.  once all the visual stuff is done then I can transfer this information to and actual time table.

if someone knows of an excel program that would do this it would be great.  As for sa earch in google, have not seen anything and I get looped back to my own post.

Sample EMRI Graph

Here is a quick example of a graph in EMRI.  It only has three trains, as I haven't gotten very far in planning my schedule yet . . .

String Line Graph

That's called a "string line" graph.  They are used by real railroads to work on scheduling and autopsy when things don't work well (among other tools).  I use manually drawn ones to work out a rough timetable and Excel to build the actual time table (but my Excel sheet doesn't generate a graph).

If you compare AZBaja's string line graph and EMRI's bar graph, you'll notice that his shows the progress of the train across the railroad, EMRI's just shows when its active but not where.  Where is important in developing a schedule.

"string line" graph

"string line" graph, that is the term I'm looking for, And as Dave said EMRI is not up to that level You can visualize problems aka "scheduling and autopsy" or making sure you do not have Bodies and Trains in the same 3D location on a double deck layout. Two 222lb people in the same 22" with 2 train on 2 decks is too much trouble to figure out in ones head without some visual aids.

Do you have a friend that

Do you have a friend that could copy the floppy to a CD or flash drive? Whether the program will work with a modern OS is a different story.

Maybe you could go to a good will store and see if they have an older PC with a floppy drive for sale.

That looks like

it should be doable in Excel.  Dave, if you have something already in Excel with just the numbers, we should be able to turn that into a graph.

Excel . . . ?

OK - How to make a String line in Excel - My engineer could probably burn this out on his lunch break.  But no longer have access to my old staff.

Graph presentation

When I reviewed that document I noticed a pop-up box that said that people who read that presentation also read a presentation on bullet proof vests.  At the risk of offending Ms. Stoilova, that's probably because people who read her presentation probably tried to shoot themselves.

I took a quick look at that Garden State link and it looks much like I envisioned it in my mind.  I'm just starting my two week work rotation, so I'll have limited time to look at it before I get home, but if I'm bored in the evenings, I might give it a go.  Do the graphic displays shown work for you?
