On Oct 4th I went for a walk across a new overpass and came across this interesting grouping. (Larger picture to follow). of course, all I had on this chance encounter was an iPhone camera.

Since the CSX engine is a little to far to the northwest, I am guessing a leased unit on this grain train. What I can't remember and I am trying to figure out is what reporting mark is now on these KCS covered hoppers. ( http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1510200) I think it started with a C? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Eugene

Seems the SOO covered hoppers have more rust (Not sure why). Had trouble getting some covered hopper tops for weathering examples so when I happened across this train I snapped as many pictures as the iPhone would take.

Those KCS cars might be registered to...

Corinth and Counce RR which is a KCS subsiciary its reporting marks are CCR.

Thanks for the responses

Still not having any luck finding photographic evidence.

Hopefully I will get another chance encounter with those covered hoppers and this time take a picture or at least make a note of the reporting mark.

not much for black hoppers...

There's not much out there for black covered hoppers, but here are a few I found:

The TILX car looks like a likely candidate.

Not TILX 75th's

After zooming in on your photo I can clearly see the patch outs over the KCS logo and numbers.
These are most certainly ex KCS cars.

@Bill Brillinger

Thank you.

Great find.

COER (Crab Orchard and Egyptian Railroad) that is unique and I like the hint of the KCS reporting mark showing through the black patch.

Looks like this car will be getting new wheels and an unique identity.

Thanks again.

Eugene

PS: Oct 21 - Caught three of the ex-KCS covered hoppers, they are COER Covered Hoppers numbers 354903, 354857 and 354979. The masking of the old KCS logo and reporting marks follows the picture posted above. The picture quality is the best I could do given the time of day and access restrictions. If you want to modify a RTR 3 bay KCS covered hopper these COER covered hoppers may be helpful.
