I have no idea how to switch prototypically, but I winged it so to speak hoping for some feedback. Keep in mind, my steam locos have no functioning front couple, which is something I have to address some day.

I dont think you give yourself enough credit...

Deem,

I don't think you give yourself enough credit!  You got all the cars where they needed to go, picked up what need to leave, reassembled the train and left.  The only thing that might have been different would be when the crew turned the power.  With a working front coupler, they might have turned the loco after reassembling the train, or maybe even right after pulling in to town, but given your situation, you did fine!

Been following this build with interest and it looks great.  Many of your techniques are impressive, and your modeling is top-notch!  My space is limited at the moment, so layouts like yours and Joseph Leal's are of great interest to me.  Keep up the great work!  I'll keep watching this space!

Deem I think you made all the right moves. I wouldn't have done anything different if I was the conductor and you turned the engine when I would have, rather than restrict the visibility of the engineer while making the first moves. Your moves were well thought out and you didn't make any un-necessary ones.

I really like your little terminal since it includes all the necessary trackage to simulate good switching/turning rather than just a bunch of spurs facing the same way which can get tiring. Further your module isn't any larger than many but includes more usable trackage. I note that this fact is not lost on our hosts with their TOMA sections including stand alone run around tracks.

I would have been happy to have you as a conductor back when I was an engineer.

Thanks, for sharing.

Thanks for the feedback and kind words, Alan.

It is a real headache that all my brass steam locos do not have front functioning couplers not even my 0-8-0 switcher. I hear it is difficult to cut a place on them to mount a coupler box.

Looking great!

Fantastic layout and rolling stock! And your operations look interesting too. It could be right out of the pages from an Ian Wilson book. Well done!

I feel honoured, Karl. Thanks.

Which brings to mind that I have noticed that some colour photos from the nineteen-fifties in publications have a light purple hue to them. I wonder if this is due to the photographic paper aging or the slide's aging used to make the photograph.

I attempted to create this look with one of my images in iPhoto.

Hey "Mr. Dee"

I really enjoy the viewing angle of those photos. They look like real snapshots someone waiting at the station would take. Very atmospheric and not like the normal train oriented photos. Well done.

Operation

It’s amazing just how much operation you can get out of small shelf layout and your track work is nicely done!

Glad you like them,

Glad you like them, RIck.

Though I do enjoy sessions, I’m not an avid operations kind of guy so I get sidetracked e.g., taking photos of the action so to speak as I go along. Getting my iPad into those areas for those angles is challenging, as the iPad can cast some shadow on the subject if I’m not paying attention not to mention hitting a car or loco by accident.
