X2011 West, the 2011 National Model Railroad Convention, will be held in Sacramento, CA on July 3-9, 2011. The current registration fee for the Convention is a very cheap $99! But that price will be available only until September 1, 2010, after it will increase to $139.

Three of the many layouts which will be on tour have already been highlighted in the MRH magazine:

  • Jack Burgess’ Yosemite Valley Railroad (MRH issue 3 - July 2009)
  • Ed Loizeaux's New York Central (MRH issue 4 - October 2009)
  • Jim Dias’ Western Pacific Railroad (MRH issue 7 - May/Jun 2010).

To register now, go to

If you have never been to a NMRA Convention, you should consider attending this one! The week-long event will be filled with layout tours, clinics on all types of subjects, model contests, an RPM meet of prototype models, and will conclude with the National Train Show, an opportunity to talk to manufacturers about new products, etc. To continue to get up-to-date information, catch us on Facebook at

Wow, $99 to register is 1980s prices

The $99 to register price harkens back to the 1980s Nationals, what a great price. If only we could convince the National Train Show vendor booth registrations to be that inexpensive! (wink)

All that and more

This convention will also be a perfect opportunity for those interested in S scale to find out more about it. The National Assocication of S Gaugers will also be having their annual convention in conjunction with the NMRA and there will be ample sharing of activities. You can find out more at:

Thanks Roy for the "S" Gauge Imfo

I have been considering building an "S" Gauge Logging short line in a 2 foot x 18 foot area along my office wall space above all my file cabinets. The cabinets are all 46" tall with about 4ft of open wall above. The space above these File cabinets just collects dust as it's unused so what better place to put a shortline.

Non-NSAG members...

JaxP,

I'm not an authoritiy on this, but I just went through the NASG webpage and didn't see any limitation - nor do I remember seeing one on the X2011 site.

Realistically, I think limits like that would be against the spirit of the Unconventional Convention.
