All Aboard!

All aboard!

We just got our household goods delivered yesterday, and it looks like all the hobby supplies made it safe and sound.  I need to check through stuff, as the models I shipped have spent 3 months inside a very large metal box, in the hottest part of the year, to what is one of the hottest places on our planet.

So....stay tuned. Once I get a chance to check and sort my goods, it's the end of my armchair railroading stint, and I can get back to "real" modeling.

Hey Scarp! Good to hear from you again.

I was wondering if we would see another "chainsaw."  Glad to hear that your goods arrived, I hope none of the models were damaged by heat.

Awesome photo,

Awesome photo, Scarpia. Looking forward to your next installment.

Hmmm, do they unload your stuff right out of the container and carry it to your place, or is there a crane waiting?

Decent Shape

Well most of it arrived in pretty decent shape. It had been a few months, so I was unsure what I had packed, and I was generally very impressed on what fit in 5 30 gallon totes, two cardboard boxes, and a toolbox.

I was worried that my supertrees might get held up at customs due to their plant source, but they made it through.

My biggest concern was with the rolling stock I shipped, as some may remember I had purchased some Axian storage boxes for the transport and storage. Axian recommends putting something between the foam and the models, otherwise a bad reaction can happen between the two.

I had lined mine with blank shipping paper before putting in the rolling stock; this worked perfectly to protect the paint from the foam (a great test, as without a doubt the models sitting in a 100+ degree metal box for 3 months should be on the outside extremes). The paper, however, caused another problem.

The paper was slick enough to let the models slide within the trays enough that a couple suffered some damage, mostly boxcars who's frames and weights became seperated.  Now that I've seen this, I realized the fault was mine, and Axian provides enough extra foam material to place between cars (I chose not to use it to try and fit more cars in), so there's a lesson learned - no doubt the sliding was caused due to motion of the box during loading, off loading, and ocean surface transport.

Another moment of dread, as I had packed around a dozen resin kits from F&C, but the few I looked at looked fine - no warpage. The paints and glues I also packed carefully, survived fine, no spills or messes.

After looking at the F&C cars, and the other half dozen Tichy car kits I included, I started to wonder how I would move them -than I found an empty Axian tray! Sometimes its nice to know you actually did something right.
