After getting the REA Express building test fit in its location (there are still some things to add to it) on the right side of Union Station, I started to work on the scene on the left side.  From looking at pictures of the actual Union Station area, the tracks are below the grade of the surrounding area which on my layout would be the back wall.  There are retaining walls, bridges, and roadway ramps in this area that needed to be modeled to some degree.  So over the last couple of weeks, I continued to design and 3-D print the components for this part of the Union Station scene. The initial build for the latest scene is only primer painted for the time being. The printed retaining wall and bridge abutments shown have been glued to poster board to give a slight standoff from the back wall.  I hope to add some appropriate background pictures later.

Once again, I want to thank Dr. Nick Muff for the pictures of his magnificent HO KCUS project as well as the prototype photos that I used to help guide my version of the station and its surrounding buildings. Some of his pictures are annotated and shown in the video above.

Tremendous!

Thanks for sharing your work with us.  This, the REA building and the Union Station are some of the best examples of using 3D printers to advantage in creating structures for a model railroad that I've seen.  I can't wait to see the next bit of progress you make in this scene.

great, like always

The complex is coming along great. I also think you're using the 3d printer to great affect.

BTW - I ordered my printer and it's currently on the proverbial slow boat from China.   Should have it in a couple weeks.  Thanks for setting an example.

Thanks for Your Comments

Janet,

My 3D printer has been a great tool to help me create exactly the look & feel that I wanted for the large scene of Union Station on my layout.  It was a solid investment.

Appreciate Your Comments

John, Thanks for your comments.  I think that you will find that your new printer will be fun to use while creating customized items for your layout either as original designs or supplemental parts for an existing item.

Wow, Great details on those N

Wow, Great details on those N scale structures and created using a reasonably priced 3-D printer.

Enjoy seeing the progress.

Thanks

Eugene,

The printer that I have (nearly 500 hours of print time since January 2017 without any issues) is good enough for what I want to do as well as being very cost effective for what it does do especially in N-scale.......John
