As I start designing the new layout, I find myself looking for a track plan of Rockongham Junction NH in the middle to late 1950s.  If anyone has what the track configuraiton was in Rockingham Junction at that time (or earlier and I can guesstimate from photos and writeups what was still there in the 1950s) or knows where online I might find it, I would love to see it.  I have found a partial just of the crossing section itself on the site for N Scale Architect, but it does not extend out in any direction even as far as where the wye's connect so sidings and additional tracks to the north, south, or east are a mystery to me.

That location will feature prominently in my slowly emerging layout plan that will head in all four directions from the junction to Portsmouth & Manchester E-W and from North Conway all the way down to Exeter N-S.

Thanks!

Thoughts

Hi Ed,

I just Googled a couple of thoughts...

Lost Railroads of New England and Lost Railroads of New Hampshire turned up a book by Karr.  Pinterest has photographs, I didn't dig in.  Sanborn maps might give a diagram of the area of interest.  Local library might have old areal photos or town pictures in their collection.  The North Conway Railroad (the one that still runs excursions) might have some background literature with pictures.  Don't forget the old timers, like myself, who might have been taking pictures at the time.

Good luck.  This is a fun part!

Different era topo maps are available from the USGS, should be some aerials of the 50's floating around, I recall seeing them online some where......DaveB

Sept 1957 Model Railraoder

If you have access to the Sept 1957 issue of MR, there is an article (pages 60 and 61) with plans for both the station and freight house and a brief overview with track diagram of the Rockingham Jct.

Closing on the house sale in NH Monday and starting rhe drive to Ohio, so it may be a few days before I can leverage these, but thank you to all who gave suggestions of resources!  It is a few weeks before we move into the new house but I am grlad to get the planning moving forward more in the meantime.
