 Some thoughts about TOMA:

1: A really neat concept for getting started and picking up on various techniques in design, construction, structures, scenery, and all the other learning curves.

2: One or two modules may get you started for industrial switching, but as soon as you decide you really do need a yard you will find yourself building three, four, or more Plywood Pacifics.

3: For a yard you will find track and turnout costs add up exponentially, and wiring will suddenly get way more involved.

4: A warning for those past their physical prime; 6 foot modules are a whole lot easier to handle than 8 footers! So plan ahead, Don't ask how I know that at 79 I am not as agile as I was at 50.

I have tried to read as much

I have tried to read as much as I can find on TOMA however I have found teh collection of TOMA videos in the TrainMasters TV to be a great source of information.

My plan is to use one sheet of birch plywood cut on the short side to let me make three , four  foot long modules. Two will be for my layout and the last one will be for a staging yard. Bench work cost will be under $100 US for twelve feet of layout and that is not too bad these days. Using a standard four foot module length allows me to plan/work in my 16' X 20' area better and everything remains consistent and manageable in size.

I too would like a section devoted to TOMA and maybe time will tell, but until then the video section does scratch that itch.

New TOMA subgroup on the new MRH Groups site

There is a new TOMA subgroup you can join on the MRH Groups site if you'd like to discuss all things TOMA. The subgroup has a file share, a photo share, a database share, and a wiki knowledgebase area. There's nothing much there right now, but lots of room to grow! The best of the conversations over there can be summarized and put in the mrhwiki or copied over here. TOMA subgroup: https://groups.mrhmag.com/g/toma Scroll down and sign up if you'd like. Posts can be read and made via email on mobile devices, too.
