To All: The Delray Connecting RR was formed in 1904 to serve United States Steel's Great Lake Works in Detroit, Michigan. The line was nick named "The Zug Island Road" and was 15.46 miles in length. Zug Island was formed when Henry Ford petitioned the Corp of Engineers to dredge out the Rouge River Channel so that his Lake Boats could access his huge Rouge Plant. I believe the road is still extant. I painted, lettered and weathered this 50 foot "What If' boxcar to honor this Early Michigan railroad. Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. Delray Connecting Railroad

Quote:

Delray Connecting Railroad (reporting mark DC) is a railroad operating on Zug Island in Michigan. The railroad interchanges with Canadian National (formerly Grand Trunk Western (GTW),Norfolk Southern (NS),CSX and Conrail (Shared Assets).

Delray Connecting Railroad is owned and operated by Transtar, Inc the railroad division of U.S.Steel. The Great Lakes Works (USS Steel Mill) is the primary customer.

From the description above from Wikipedia, it sounds like the USS Great Lakes Works and Delray Connecting Railroad are still in operation. Here is a video from YouTube.

ferroequinologist1, nice boxcar and neat history of another USS short line.

Delray Connecting RR

Yes, It still operates but it appears it never owned any equipment in interchange service.  It uses EMD switchers.

Zug Island

Curious name, Zug Island.  One of the Germanic translations for "Zug" can be taken as "train".

Delray Connecting Decals.

Picker23: The decals for DC RR boxcar are Microscale individual letters from their Gothic Alphabet sheet. The capacity and dimensional data are from Rail Graphics sheets (no longer being produced). Yours, E.H.
