Picked up a Fox Valley Models HO GP60 recently. Beautiful model but finding some electrical issues upon trials.

1. The rotary beacon (when it and all lights are turned off) glows dimly when throttle is applied.

2.  the front truck doesn't seem to pickup track power on its own when the rear is lifted off the track. The rear does pickup power when front is lifted off track. My understanding was that all wheels pickup.

Are the above normal?

Below is a pic of said unit though not presented for trouble shooting

Thx for your help

jeff

The NS GP60 I had, had the same problem it turned out to be a broken pick up wire on the offending truck.  It also had a tendency to derail going thru curved turnouts.  I no  longer have the Fox  Valley product.  Zeke

Thanks Zeke

Thanks Zeke. I figured it might be a bad pick up connection but being as it's brand-new I didn't want to rip it apart. I contacted Fox Valley, so we'll get a chance to see how their customer service is now.  It's a shame as it's such a good looking loco. Will update...

Update

Just received a new replacement unit in the mail today. Never got an email response but I am satisfied that FVM stood behind their product and took care of the problem.

I also got a replacement GP60 due to a broken connector wire to one truck.

Note to self

Don' buy Fox Valley products.  Sound's like nonexistent customer service!  Yes they replaced the model but made NO EFFORT to contact you in any way!  You sent it to them on a whim and a prayer hoping to get something back.  Good thing it worked out for you.  This time!

The sad part is

Fox Valley Models is an MRH sponsor!   As we all know this forum sometimes is brutally honest so I hope that the powers to be at FVM reads this forum thread.  Good customer service is so much more than just replacing a defective part or complete model.  It starts with good customer COMMUNICATION!  Answer the phones, reply to the e-mails, call the customer back if messages have been left!  Do not EVER leave them in the dark!
