I also attended and even drove several trains  See the pictures that I shot in the blog post's gallery.

I LOVE SCARM!

So far, it was the only track planning software that was so instinctive, that I was able to use it right away!

I planned my whole layouts' track plan with it, using EZ Track!

(I'm told there is a way to place buildings in it, but, that, I haven't figured out yet)

You can "build" your own buildings in SCARM

Yes, you can "build" your own buildings in SCARM as described here:

How to create houses and buildings?

Or you can search the layouts in the Model Train Layouts & Track Plans database, download and open the track plan where you spot some nice structure in your scale and then copy and paste it on your own virtual layout.
