Hi Bill,

I was talking with my friend Peter. As I was about to buy your fishplates. What about Fishplate railjoiners?

Can it be done.

cheers,

Brad,

Mechanical Joiners

I don't have the tools or materials to make metal parts, so I've got no suggestions for you in that regard.

However, cutting your metal track joiners to a length that matches the joint bars you want to use and then adding the joint bars above them on the side of the rail could work.

I would use the L channel version installed upside down in that case so the metal joiner forms the bottom edge of the fishplate. Then I would only glue the Joint bar to one side of the actual joint to allow for expansion.

Great idea!

I'd buy rail joiners that look like joint bars! That would be a brilliant invention.

Shinohara

That's great! But too bad I couldn't come up with the patent. Thanks for pointing me in the direction.

upside down Fishplates

Thanks Bill. Good to know the link below but it makes more sense to go with yours for me so I don't have to replace the joiners then moving forward get the Shinohara's. How much are you selling yours for? and if you can send me the info to order please either here or at bketchen@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Yeah, the angle bars could be reduced in height a bit if they are too high when placed on top of the metal rail joiners. A jewelers saw makes short work of cutting a metal rail joiner in half. Another method would be to not use a metal rail joiner but to solder a short piece of wire on the base of the rail on the non visible side then just use one of Bill's cosmetic joiners on the visible side.....DaveB

fish plate thread resurrection

I came across this photo I took a few Years back when the old TH&B tracks existed in front of the old TH&B station in Brantford, On, Canada. Sadly they are no more. In fact there was a yard there. Anyway, back to the discussion of fishplates., this photo looks like an insulated rail joiner like the old school orange ones. So apparently we can use them and dress them up with said plates.
