Penn Lake's Bourbon River Subdivision is the Main Line of the railroad.  The double track line connects the helix from Lampson Yard and the future helix to the Anthracite Subdivision. The modeled portion passes through two towns and three interlockings.

Initial Tour

The Bourbon River Sub begins at LY Tower.  Lampson Yard off to the left, and Helix 1 to the right.

The Line exits Helix 1 at SF Tower at Whiskey Junction, thru the painted portal.  The unpainted portal is the continuous run connection (the Schuylkill Sub):

Continuing around the room, is South Falls.  South falls has a small station, and a street of two story buildings along the front edge:
%20Falls.jpg

And crosses Plaster Creek on a Walthers Truss Bridge:
%20Creek.jpg

The railroad then jumps the doorway into Plaster Falls, a larger town.  Most buildings will be between the track and backdrop, and some are more substantial sturctures:

And PF Tower, and the largest station.  The tower here will probably be integrated with the station:

Leaving Plaster Falls, the line bridges Marsh Run, kitbashed Atlas N scale viaducts:

Encounters the PRR (primarily an excuse for some PRR position light signals, and crosses the Bourbon River, kitbashed Central Valley girder bridges:

Finally, CA Tower at Carbon Junction.  Straight ahead will be Helix 2 to the Anthracite Subdivsion, and the Bourbon River Sub "continues" off toward the right, becoming the Schuylkill Sub.

Town Updates

Due to an impending move, I acquired a large number of finished structures from a friend.

The new and improved South Falls:

Track Realignment at PF

After acquiring a Walthers Main Line station from friend, I needed to do some realignment of the track between Plaster Creek and the PRR crossing, as the Walthers station is about 3/8" wider then the Life Like one I had installed.

The physical constants of the Bourbon River and PRR crossing meant I couldn't just pull the track forward:

So I "jogged" the track coming off the March Run bridge around the station:

I actually ended up pushing the track track farther to the back to accommodate the new turnout configuration and in the process widened the curve radius between the PRR crossing and March Run bridge. This fixed a tight spot in the inner curve.

As an added bonus, pulling the track between the station and the city, gives me more room for some low relief buildings and a more believable road, between the track and the backdrop.

Building Realignment at Plaster Falls

With the track realignment came some building realignments:

I'm conflicted over which side of the station to position the Rowhomes:

River Valley Redux Part I

I originally cut the river valleys too narrow and after creating some rather steep banks, or retaining walls, decided to fix the situation where possible.

Water Effects for Plaster Creek

Adding some water effects to Plaster Creek, once I'm done, I need to go back over the water with some gloss medium to perk everything up again.

Plaster Creek Bridge Reinstalled

The bridge over Plaster Creek is reinstalled.  This is the old Walthers kit, before they altered it for double stacks.

At normal viewing height the dam and outfall are kinda hidden, but I think they still look nice:

Water Effects...

This is very nice. Could you do a post telling us how you did it? Thanks.

Thanks

Vince and Ron, many thanks.

The outfall from the dam, is simply a piece of .10 clear styrene, streaked with white paint, and coated with acrylic gloss medium.  The rapids under the outfall and the body of the creek are made from acrylic gloss gel (a thick version of gloss medium) and some dabs of white paint.

Farm!

Most likely not the final configuration, but South Falls now has a farm:
arm%2001.jpg

At the very least, it needs some fencing for prevent the cows from wandering onto the right of way or into the gorge.
