New to MRH...a bit about me

hoggrken's picture

Hello to all from St. Albert Alberta (just outsde of Edmonton)...I have just found this forum and signed up. My name is Ken, and I model in HO,with a 12 by 20 layout oriented toward switching and operations. I should also add that I am a locomotive engineer with Canadian National out of Edmonton...

The layout is loosely based on the CN/CP Okanagan Sub between Vernon and Kelowna, British Columbia. I had originally wanted to model around 1980, but this has since 'gone out the window' with my dear wife purchasing a Kato DCC/sound equipped AC4400 a few Christmases ago...The layout is 'under construction', with the trackwork in place and some scenery underway. I'll see if I can add some photos with my next post...I'll have to learn how to do that!

Cheers...Ken.

Welcome

Hi Ken,

Welcome to the forum.

How is the layout coming, it's been a long time since we have seen any updates.

Welcome!

Welcome aboard!  Glad to have a neighbor from the GWN (Great White North).  One of the guys in our operating group is from Canada.  I'm looking forward to seeing more of your layout.

Another Western Canadian!

Welcome to the forum!  Great place to come.  I'm originally from Hinton and spent most summers of my youth in Vernon visiting my grandmother (my dad is from Vernon), so I'm quite familiar with your area of modelling.  The couple of photos look good.  There is a post about how to add photos into your own posts, I'll try to dig it up.

Welcome!

Hi Ken,

Great to have you here!  The layout looks really good.

Nice to have some more representation from Western Canada, here at MRH!

Thanks Kevin...Looking at one

Thanks Kevin...Looking at one of your posts from your days in Regina. I think I may know your old neighbor who was an engineer and modeller. Would his name be Graham Wood, by chance??

Regards...Ken.

Past Engineers

Hey Ken,

There must have been more than one Engineer/Modeller working for CN out of Regina in days gone by.

My Neighbors were McNaughton's.  I think Wayne was the fathers name and his son Terry followed in his footsteps, if I remember correctly.

Welcome Ken.

Welcome ken. Looks like we're getting lots of representation from "The West." Yah gotta like a Missus who picks up toys like that.

Welcome

Welcome Ken,

I hope you enjoy it here. I'm glad to meet you. Like you, I've also got a layout under construction (although technically, layouts are never finished) but, at least you got an idea on what you would like to do for it.

Again, Welcome. Make yourself at home.

Thanks guys...

Thanks for that...as time goes by, I will have to put up more photos. Yes, the layout is 'process driven', to say the least, and due kudos to some of scenic gems I have seen here and elsewhere, but the credo here is, 'form follows function'.

I am holding up on doing some of the scenery and superdetailing for now, as I may swap out the Shinohara Code 70 number 4 turnouts for another alternative (perhaps Mr. Warris's fine looking product). The # 4's are in the engine / RIP facility , the car barge yard and the lumber / plywood mill. I may have to 'chainsaw' the whole issue in 4 yrars once I retire anyways.

Should also mention I belong to the NMRA Pacific Northwest Region and Ops SIG as well.

Well, I have to lay down...expecting to get called for my 12 inch to the foot scale unit train...Cheers!

Ken.
