What a steal!

From the website:

The list price for the four-car trainset is 1,790,000.00, this price includes all linens, china, kitchen equipment and parts/supplies.

Not the kind of trainset most of us grew up with!

Unfortunately I just don't

Unfortunately I just don't have a big enough basement to run this.

Space isn't the problem...

Skyshooter, space in the basement isn't really the problem. If you can afford the 1.7million for the cars, you can probably afford the __REALLY, REALLY BIG__ basement to run them in... pulled by a matching set of F-units.

I have ridden on the Silver

I have ridden on the Silver Lariat up both Stampede and Stevens Passes in 2011 (on the NRHS convention and Leavenworth ‘snow train’ trips the same year) and in the very back of the Silver Solarium for 4449’s ferry run to Tacoma for the same convention.

The cars were (and I’m sure still are) in incredible shape. They were very well-run and my wife was on the Leavenworth run with me (in the dome) and she loved the car, too.

My understanding is that the owners simply want to retire at this point. It’d be amazing to be able to have the means to acquire and run these incredible cars.

Now where's my winning lottery ticket?!

It would be the dream of a lifetime to own one of these, let alone all 4 as a matched set. And yes, I'm going to have to find at least 2 decent F-units to pull "my" train.

I'll pitch in!

This looks like a Kickstarter project. Donate $17,900 and get a seat; $1,790 and get a plaque; or send $17.90 to my PayPal account for a heart felt thank you :- )

Now we need either 100, 1000, or 10,000 more donors.

I Wanted to a Buy Them

I wanted to buy them. But they only have one set available. I would want a backup set in case a dish gets broken.

House or hotel

Other than the obvious (museum or private rail), this could make a killer house or hotel. I mean, 2 full kitchens and a snack galley, a fully kitted-out wood/maintenance shop in the baggage car, all the linens and table service, and all of it Amtrak rated? 1.8 mil seems like a steal to me. Granted, I can't afford it, but if I could...

Just out of curiosity

The almost $2M price tag is the cheap part. How much would storage cost? I can only imagine going out to see my cars parked outside to find out some little punk has dedicated it to his/her tagging project. So, that dictates inside storage... I can't imagine what insurance costs...

There are other cars out there, perhaps not with as much history. Does anyone know what happened to the American Orient Express cars? Any word on the RBBX cars?

RBBX

One of the RBBX sets was bid off piecemeal on March 10 through Great Lakes Railcar in Illinois.
