So I started researching vendors for Banana trees for the  plantation on my layout and found only two manufacturers. Pegasus Hobbies and MP scenery products. I ordered one kit of the Pegasus and 2 packs MP scenery for comparison. I was only able to find one hobby vendor that carried the MP trees in the U.S.A., and I bought the only two packs they had.

The Pegasus trees are a plastic model Kit that you assemble and the MP scenery are premade trees handmade in Vietnam.

Pics of the Pegasus kit.

I felt these looked a bit fake. But if you had some good painting skills they could possibly work.

Next up pics of the MP trees.

Now these look quite realistic.

So I decided to go with the MP scenery trees, and I think they may be phasing them out because they're not listed on the manufacturers site anymore. I did find them on eBay direct from the manufacturer and ordered 10 more boxes.

A not too good Pic of a few on layout.

Short?

Are they usually that height? I admit that, other than perhaps in Hawaii, I doubt I've ever been near a real banana tree.

Wow, very good looking trees from MP. Get them while you can !!!  That plantation will look really good. Don't forget to plant them close enough so that the fronds from each palm will touching each other.

Height

Banana plants vary in height a great deal. Don't forget that they also grow like bamboo so the new babies will come off the base of the parent plant. The commercial "William's" are rather short but the wild "Apple" bananas can be very tall. We have "ice cream" and "red" cooking bananas as well and they get about 12' tall.  As they mature the lower fronds die and become brown.

I got a similar kit off of eBay for a reasonable price and look like the same as your Pegasus brand. They should look better with some toning down. The MP look great. Are they made of feathers?

Re Height

The MP brand look to be some type of paper and possibly wire through the center of the leaf.

They come in HO size about 1 1/2" and O scale 2 1/2". So you could possibly mix them up a bit for variety.

I did finally find them on their site. The reason I didn't see the mon there before is they're listed under vegtables. LOL

DIY

Thanks Peter. I'm include to try making some for my own line now. There are a few places here that still grow these "vegetables" (lol) so I can take some pics if you would like. Mostly they are wild along the sides of roads or in clumps where camp homes used to be located, along with bamboo and other fruit trees.

I forgot to ask if you are modeling in HO or O scale. Have you considered how to model coffee plantations? It seems most were on steep hillsides where they were hand picked and bagged to take for processing. I've been looking forward to seeing an update.

I am your Vendor in the US for MP Products

No they are not going out of stock. I have placed orders for more but they take a long time to make & ship as they are hand made. On this order I will also get O scale Banana Trees these are taller 2-3/4 instead of the 1-1/2 you purchased . I am expanding their line here in the US. Always make sure you e-mail me with any questions. I can get any of their products to you cheaper than an order to the company. Shipping time is much faster if I have what you need in stock especially.

I have advertised here on the MRH but got very little response.

I have both an e-bay site and a web site so product is on both always check or send e-mail. New stock should arrive at the end of the month.

P.S. I am listed on MP's site as their US vendor - Also I could use a plug from any of you who have purchased from me. The more sales the more product I can stock. Would be a violation of this blog If I did it myself so any help I can get is appreciated. Also the quality of all their products is the same or better than JTT for a much cheaper price.

Thanks!

Michael

I can not as it is a violation of blog rules.

Just search for MP scenery Products on Google or go to their web site listed above and look on the dealers page. Look for my blog picture on the web site or the e-bay store and you will know you are there. Same one.

Thanks,

Michael

Sorry I can not - violation of blog rules

Just search for MP Scenery Products on Google or ebay - Seller name on ebay is same as I use here, just backwards. Also my blog picture is the same on both ebay and my web site. So you will know you are there.

Or look for the Vietnamese red dragon logo.

Thanks!

Michael....

I'm one of the admins here and I'm requesting the information.

It doesn't fall under the "no advertising" rules.

I'll go hunting.

I did a First Look on the MRC/JTT corn stalks awhile back (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/magazine/mrh-2011-03-Mar/fl-corn_stalks) and I noticed the MP corn stalks look fairly similar.

Always looking for new sources of scenery products.

No Problem Then - Here you go

http://www.aqhobbies.com/default.asp

http://stores.ebay.com/aqhobbies

Main product is MP scenery but I carry JTT as well.

Better Product than JTT in all cases and cheaper.

MP has no connection with JTT at all. Also they are open to new product suggestions much more than JTT.
