I've been seeing a lot of that in the model magazines these days. In small shots like the one above or if you're very good at Photoshop, it looks great. But blown up to the cover of RMC? Even my wife took a look at one magazine shot and said, "Who do they think they're fooling with that? That looks terrible!"

I recently took some shots and used the old method of cotton over a structure, moved for blur and removed halfway through a long exposure. In this one, I used twisted paper towels for cylinder exhaust. Sometimes, the old way is best, as it also leaves a shadow like real dense smoke does...

The people are O scale figures

The only thing I added to the photo was the smoke and steam exhaust. The figures are O scale.

Ventilated Room!
