To All: This is the second paint scheme used on the Alton & Southern RS-3 units. I painted, lettered and weathered, followed by dullcoating of this Bachmann unit. It is factory equipped with a silent DCC decoder. I made the black stripes, did the art work for the cab herald and custom mixed the creme color. To finish the unit I will add a Cal-Scale 3 chime brass horn, letter Alton & Southern in black Gothic on the long hood and equip it with #58 Kadee couplers. For modeling this unit I used a photo in rr picture archives. I will use this guy on road freights, as it does not have slow speed swiching ability. These models do not come up to the standards of an Atlas or Kato model, but good for mainline running. Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail group Layout.

I'm not sure if you want to

I'm not sure if you want to know this or not, but the A&S units were Yellow and Green, so you may have to weather this one a lot.

A&S Colors

avpelleg: In the photo I used the green looked black like Brunswick Green looks black. To me the yellow looks more like a creme. In the first photo I see what your saying but in the second photo the colors look yellow and black. I did not know what the fireman's side looked like. I leaned there is a shade above the window, which I will install. I do not intend to correct the colors, but thanks for the info. The problem with the A&S is there is little info, even on the internet. Even the TRRA Historical Society is not extensive enough. My weathering job is heavy enough that the yellow has faded and the green is weathered to a brown-black! My problem is when I am ready to do a project, it is full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes!
