I picked up an old Accurail 40' AAR box car kit at a train show.  The car is oxide red with the 'C & O for Progress' logo.  It has a build date of 1949, and a repack date of the mid 50's.

My question is what color are the underframe and/or the trucks?   I am hoping some C & O experts are lurking the forum and have the answers - Thanks!

C&O

Not a C&O expert by any stretch, but my Morning Sun color guide on their equipment indicates the trucks are painted black, no photos of the boxcar undersides are shown.

Big C&O modeler but not an expert

I model C&O in the 1890's but I have items up until 1950. Love my Allegheny.  I have noticed that for the most part the undercarriage is painted the same color as the side of the car.  The undercarriage just get dirty and is less maintained, i.e. not painted as often. There are exception as always.

One of each!

I have noticed that the Cincinnati Div 6 offering of USRA outside sheath cars appear to have dirty oxide trucks on the finished examples. The old Champ Plan Book #2 just mention the body color... I looked through the I-M Web site. The pictures of the C&O AAR and PS-1 cars seem to show black trucks. It looks like black is winning here. Jim

Black it is...

I just looked through the Kadee 'old release' page of 40' PS-1 box cars and they appear tp have black trucks and underframe as well.  Thanks to all who contributed!  It's amazing all of the modeling 'time' one can get out of a $5 purchase at a train show!  The upgrading of the kit, the research and detailing/painting adds to the enjoyment of this hobby.
