Most of the work inside the salvage yard has been completed and I wanted a little change in jobs so I started doing landscaping outside of the yard by the back gates.  The back gate is the entrance that will be used when pulling and dropping cars.

I started the process by painting the ground dirt brown and then sprinkling different colors of ground foam.

This is a view of what the back entrance looks like:

In this view from the fascia you can see the mainline which is at the back by the rock cut, then a passing track, and finally the yard track.

Next I added a mixture of 4mm and 6mm "late summer" colored static grass.

After adding static grass I added trees and bushes.

I've got more work to do in this area, but I've found it's best if I leave it alone and return later with "fresh eyes" to see what needs to be done next.

Looking good Rick! Must have been a lot of work for you, what is it, about 20 square inches? You must be exhausted!

Looks right

Rick

it looks like the approach to a number of salvage yards that I have had to work. There also seemed to be a few pieces of scrap that had fallen from the cars and trash in the bushes at the locations I had the pleasure of dealing with. Keep up the great work!!

Would there be more brown in

Would there be more brown in reality from poor soils and pollution plus perhaps efforts to kill the weeds?

Peter, you are correct!

It wouldn't be as green as my present scene; however, I wanted to wait until the glue dried before doing some "browning".

Right On!

Your work and detail is right on and your answers, to questions from comments, are right on as well. You must be a "Right On" type of guy, even knowing when to take a nap.

I will surely check out your info regarding the fascia, I am very close to needing to consider all the options in that regard for my module layout for train convention setup. Info like yours and many others on the forum make this a gold mine for serious molders, thank you.

Guys like Buck are always bringing home good "salvage" from the junkyard,

Such a great scene Rick, I hope I can do half as well as you have on my scrap yard to come.

Signs, signs, everywhere signs

Where did you get your signs?  And where's the dog?  Did he run off that bum sleeping on the couch?

Nice work Rick.

Sublime

This is quite sublime Rick. Actually, I like the contrast between the green of the approach and the barren yard.
Personally I would leave it the way it is.

The "Bad Dog" sign had me guffawing......

Great work.

Sound?

 And where's the dog?

Seems like a dog ought to begin to bark anytime anyone nears the premises.

Sounds like a job for Arduino!

Kevin, a neat idea!

I like the dog barking idea.  I could use a sensor that triggers the barking when cars are being pulled / dropped in the yard.

Phillip H.

For my signs I downloaded them from the web, resized them, weathered them with my photo editing software, printed them, and mounted them on 10 thousands styrene before gluing them on the fence.

I do have a dog in the yard - but he is lazy and hasn't run off the bum yet.
