Do you need to buy the rail separately for the fasttracks quick sticks sets or does it come with rails and frogs. I am looking for a way to get as many switches as possible for a cheap price so is that best or are there cheaper ways?

Rail is separate....

They have a package you can get when you buy a jig, but if you just order quicksticks all you get is wood.

The cheapest way to build turnouts is to get PC ties, rail, and loose wood ties, then build everything on a paper template. There is some fiddly filing on the frog, but since it gets soldered, it's not super critical. Fast tracks tools are great, but you have to build a lot of turnouts to come out even in cost with the competition. Mostly you save time. A pointform tool in a largish size is very useful, because it will work for sharper turnouts. A frog helper is next, because it will keep the frog flat, which is the most common issue with free form construction.

quick sticks

turnouts.JPG I agree with pqe, the price of the laser cut ties almost makes the cost as much as a ready built #6 Micro Engineering turnout. I built and painted the turnouts with just the PC ties then stained the wood ties. I then installed the turnouts with just a few wood ties, and went back and installed the remaing ties, using full size ties and white glue. After the glue dried I used the rail nppers to cut the ties to length. The photos show from the bottom a Micro Engineering turnout a Fast tracks with laser cut tie strip and the individual ties,
