I HAVE AN ATHEARN GP40. WILL A GP7/GP9 SHELL FIT ON THE CHASSIS?

Shell

The Athearn blue box GP40-2, GP38-2 and GP50 shells will all fit on the same frame.

Shell Swapping

The GP40 wheelbase is 3 scale ft longer than 1st generation GP's line the GP7 or GP9. You also run into the fuel tank difference and body mounting attachments...

These appear

on eBay fairly frequently.  Search in HO scale for frame.  They are not as common as some, but do show up.  There are a couple of sellers that sell only parts of all types. They are the ons that have them most often.
