Progress has slowed as studying took over, but some progress has been made with scenery and track work with 98% of the roadbed complete and 95% of track installed and wired.  Only two more switches/tortoises to install and the rest is mainline run.  Aside from the frontage, scenery is in through the second titular town of Horseshoe Meadows shown:

The photo backdrops are of the actual Horseshoe Meadows that were taken over this past summer.

Behind the town the line begins its descent towards the Owens Valley.

Please excuse the tortoise in shot and missing facia.  Scenery still in progress here.

The end of initial construction on the layout is at least in sight now!  Of course there will still be structures to be added and lots of details.  And there is still a giant trestle to be built, but temporary supports will allow it to be in use.

Looking forward to running the first train across the full line end to end hopefully in a week or two!!

bonus!

Oh and here is an "anomaly" spotted in one of the panorama photos taken last summer.  Did not notice it when the photo was taken as it made no noise and we were in a very remote part of the Sierra.   Anyone come across anything like this before in your photo work?

Military?

UFO folks would claim it is a UFO. I wonder though if it doesn't belong to the military. There is a wilderness training base just north of Bridgeport. It is on the road that goes over Sonora Pass. I don't remember if there is a sign letting you know it is there. The last time I was up there was in 1975 so it could have been closed. On the other hand it is a great location for some desert warfare training so maybe not.

one of ours?

While I would certainly like to think that it's one of ours and is only used for good.  Considering it is totally silent and near invisible when stationary I am leaning toward it probably isn't one of ours.  Honestly I'm not sure which prospect is more terrifying.
