Burbank Branch comes to Beverly Hills!

Back in June we were forced to vacate our apt. due to some unforseen structural issue so I packed up the branch modules and boxed the models. Although the move was to be temporary, I was offered a transfer to Beverly Hills and as we had already packed, we moved again.

The layout survived 2 different moving companies with just minor dings but the biggest issue was where to place it. With these open floor plans I didn't have the wall space to fit the modules so the layout would need to be condensed. The layout is now 2 modules long with one lonely spur for one lonely warehouse. Times are tough on the Branch!

Since I won't be using the Curved Siding Module, I paved over the broken track to create an abandoned spur:

Structures Going Up!

Created the Structures from foam core and kitbashed the windows and awnings. The Teal Warehouse doors are all photos from Lance Mindheims website, as is the office building. I'll fill in more details soon.

Maybe one day I'll make a backdrop but for now, white painted wall will have to suffice!

Hi,Joe, How are you and your family doing? Despite of your new space, the layout is still retaining the branch's atmosphere. That's the proof of well designed layout! I'm glad that your scratch built utility pole survived from two moves as well as the Oroweat bakery. (Although, it's an abandoned now.) I'm looking forward to seeing you new video. Dats

thanks for the comments!

Hey Datz hows everything with you, yours, and "The Branch Rocket"!? We've been busy to say the least. I'm looking forward to another vid from you too! Paul, I spent a couple years on Chandler Blvd, early 90s, and remember the local going by everyday. I was probably 7 or 8. As for era, I planned on the mid to late 80s but never stuck to it. Check out the links in my signature below for more info. Thanks! Thank you all again for the comments!

The back scene is still in the works, as are more finishing details.

And now for the wishlist:

Chainlink fence, trees, shrubs, grasses, billboards, a forklift, and trash.

Finished up the ground cover, added a few details...

Dumpsters and Dock Doors were printed off the Lance Mindheim Blog. The Electrical box is from BLMA. The ground cover is sifted dirt from the Camarillo Amtrak Station.

This one came out a bit blurred:

The road photos

I'm glad to see the shots of the road along the front of the layout as I'd been planning a similar scene for one part of my layout and was trying to visualize how it might look. It looks great, now I can proceed with confidence.....DaveB

Added Industry

Joe, Have you considered adding another right hand turnout to the current turnout, making a cross-over, then adding a spur back to the main line, giving you a run around track? You could then add another spur off the run around track to the industry with the loading dock, giving you another industry to switch.

Here is a photo of my idea using your original plan

Cheers,

Rich S.

Another Update...with PICS!

First off, Thank you to everyone who has been following my blog and YouTube channel, and to those who have commented and made suggestions. I really appreciate the feedback and support. And I promise, another video is nearly completed!

Rich S., thank you for the suggestion, its a great idea, and after giving some thought, I'll be using this switching layout as is for now to learn and grow on, eventually adding more modules in the future.

And now, the pictures...

The last of the ground cover has dried and is blended. That last bit of sand will be removed soon

Dumpster

Joseph

How did you assemble the dumpster?

I have printed and cut it out Lance's Dumpster. did you wrap it around something to get it to stay in place?

Thank you

I pushed the floor up just a bit into the body to strengthen the corners. Then I glued four pieces of a round sprue for the wheels, one at each corner. Also, I left just a bit of excess paper on the ends to give a bigger surface to glue to. Fold the dumpster after dusting the inside with chalk to dirty it up. Make sure your folds are straight. Those dumpsters are delicate but make a great detail!

Nice Southern Pacific layout

Joseph, you have a nice layout. I was born and raised in Los Angeles County(born in Bellflower, raised in Compton). I lived about four blocks from the Espee railroad tracks most of my childhood. I have been watching your videos. Now that you have a smaller layout, could you make a video on YouTube about how you switch the team track(5 car spots long)? I was thinking about making a switching layout with two turnouts and three sidings(similar to an Inglenook layout). Wendell

Thanks Wendell, I was filming the layout today actually. I plan on doing a layout update and switching video now that all the structures have been completed!
