welztalbahn

4 weeks after I started work on the station segment (see my MRH blog posts), it has now reached a level consistent with the neighboring segments, the maintenance facility and the town of Emsingen.

With the iron fence temporarily in place the difference in pavement color between the street and the maintenance facility is not nearly as jarring anymore as before.

Now I need to decide whether to extend the pavement tiles from the station building to the platform edge at track 1, or repair and re-sand the damage at the edge facing the movable segment.

The Emsingen thread on my blog has plenty more photos of the segment construction. Feel free to stop by.

Very nice Bernhard

Nice work. I particularly enjoy that first scene with the flowers in the medium and the crosswalk. Looks like a place I'd enjoy visiting.

Thank you!

Thank you for the kinds words. A layout is always a work in progress, so such encouragement along the way is very much appreciated!

Extending the pavement tiles is the trickier option to build because of the need for exact leveling and alignment to match up with the pavement on the removable station segment in this very visible and very central spot of the layout ... but yeah, I think it will look better that way.

It might be a bit of a cliche, but you could have the edge where they meet "under construction" to help hide any misalignment.

misalignment

I'll try to get as close to aligned as I can make it, and if that doesn't work out I'll add a trip hazard warning or "Baustelle" signs ...

Completed

Give Michael a couple of months with his elves and they will get his big one complete...

On the other hand I've been building a tiny layout for years and I have no end in sight!!

Currently wondering what my next layout should be...

hahahahaha!

You guys are cracking me up  The construction speed of Michael's elves is unmatched.

The Welztalbahn layout has grown in spurts over the last few years as life -- and this pesky thing called "work" -- permits. I love working on the railroad, building something in the real world, to balance building and running virtual things in my day job.
