Some months ago I posted some pictures of my sawmill machinery fresh from Shapeways. Since then it has been installed into the Opoma Sawmill on my Springwater Sub and I thought I'd show you how it's working out. The machinery is in, the overhead belt drive system is installed and the lights are on, after this a lot of sawdust and woodchips and some detail parts and I'll have myself a sawmill!

Looks Great

I am wondering though how the logs get up the ramp and into the mill?

Just behind the steam engine

Just beside the steam engine in the last picture is the log haul winch.

Typically most saw,mills have

Typically most saw, mills have a loop of chain with some spiky hooks on it that snag the log.  Think something like a chainsaw

Incredible detail

You have produced an excellent sawmill and milling facility Don. I can smell the wood from here. Hope you give us a picture once it is up and running with all the sawdust !

That is certainly the case in

That is certainly the case in larger mills. This is loosely modelled after the McLean Mill in Port Alberni BC, a preserved and functioning steam powered saw mill. There the man on the float lassoos the logs with a choker and the winch hauls them up to the log deck. That works great for a small mill but would be too slow for a big operation.
