slip switch code 55 #6

7hr 23min and about 10 sec away from needing a lithium with a thorazine chaser. It ain't pretty.
Some great suggestions about improving quality. It's still all about the soldering, have you seen the size of the space to solder, should have pinned the points. Wonder if I could get away with a 15w pencil to do the final work. Who can tell me why it's Not a good idea to use pcb ties to space the ponts in N scale, it ryhmes with solder the tie to the point to stock rail. This one won't be getting quickties. I should have cleaned the switch before installing the points and made sure there was no copper under the stock rails on the throw bar. Tomorrow is the double cross but I don't know if a #6 requires hinged points after today I'm not a big fan of them.

A trick to not have things solder where you do not want it, black felt tip pen like a Sharpie. Smear it where you do not want solder to flow. Works like a charm and comes off with alcohol and a tooth brush. Test it on a piece of PCB tie. You can heat it till the pcb dilaminates, solder will not flow on to where the ink lies. I did the test few years ago and posted it here as I recall.

Thanks Mark.
Solder won't flow anywhere that there is the slightest trace of dirt or a foriegn substance at the joint, but I had never thought of using a felt tip marker to stop solder flow where I don't want it.
hinged points
I've made my hinged points a fake. It looks like hinged but isn't.
I've cut only the top of the rail, the rail head, with a fine saw and I made a cut into the rail base.
Here're pictures from a turnout at my Silver Creek:

Wolfgang, your attention to
Wolfgang, your attention to detail never ceases to amaze me!! No one else or very few others would have bothered! Please keep the goodies coming. They are inspiring.

Anti-Flux
There are even compounds made for keeping flux from flowing where you don't want it but since, as Marc mentioned, a marker, or even graphite from a soft pencil will keep solder at bay, there is no need to buy anything special.
nice
Inspiring track, will try that on my next switch.
