I would like to hear from someone who has installed a Keep Alive(or any other brand) capacitor in an Athearn Genesis MP15AC.  I would like to know what brand, installation hints, etc.

Thanks,

GENESIS MP15AC-AGAIN

I have read the various web site postings regarding the Athearn Genesis MP15-AC.  I have installed the NWSL wheel sets as some described, but I am still having problems.  I do not think I have a power contact problem due the following reason.  My engine runs smoothly, but will suddenly just stop.  The sound(tsunami OEM) continues fine.  All functions can be accessed.  The engine just stops. Sometimes it will start moving again if the direction is reversed.  Sometimes it will start moving again if I turn throttle knob off then back on.   If there was a power pickup problem the sound would not function.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I am beginning to think it is a problem with the factory installed motor.

Thanks

I think I'm going to go this route with my MP-15AC.  I too have pickup issues.  Changed wheel sets  as you did, but no help.  On mine, I lose sound and lights as well.

Litchfield Station carries them.

Good luck!

Trouble Shooting

From the original information in the first post. There are 3 items that may be the problem. this type of problem can be tricky because it is intermittent. The pickup and wiring to the decoder should not the problem. The other items are the decoder, the wiring/connections between the motor and the decoder, or the motor itself. You can connect a LED and 560 ohm 1/2 watt resistor to the motor leads and observe if power is present when the units stops. If the motor stops but the led is on then the motor is bad else the motor is good. You could substitute a new wiring harness from the decoder to the motor. If the the problem goes away the old harness is bad, else the old harness is good. If the motor and harness is good then the decoder is bad. That is all I know about that!

Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else. <>  Leonardo da Vinci

I have 4 of them.I have replaced the wheel sets with nwsl code 88 wheel sets and also kadee o scale coupler springs cut in half and placed on the end of axles to make constant contact to the brass side frames.
