I built the original design by Joe F. using a DC ion generator.  A friend wants to build one and he has an 120 VAC plug in Ion Generator from Electronic Goldmine.   Can it be used to build a grass machine?  if so it has only three wires coming from the generator.  One has a metal brush on it and other others apparently attach to the AC cord and plug set provided.  I don't know what to tell him.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Kevin Rowbotham's Mar/Apr 2010 MRH Article

Kevin Rowbotham authored an excellent article in the March-April MRH on building three homemade static grass applicators, including a 120 VAC version.  Here's the link- http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/magazine/mrh-2010-MarApr/static_grass_applicators.

Kevin also did a follow up article in the September 2011MRH-  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/magazine/mrh-2011-09-sep/static_grass_update

These two articles should answer your questions.

120V AC NEG ION GEN.

I still have my 120V grass applicator.  Those familiar with working with AC voltage should be fine building the applicator.

The metal brush is the HV output that connects to the screen in the flocking cup.  The other two wires are line power live and common wires as you observed.

Ask questions if you have any.  Lots here will try to help.

Good luck, be safe!
