Rocket Jones

After watching TMTV's series on painting backdrops with Chris Lyon, I gathered materials and gave it a shot.  For reference, my switching layout is N scale, five foot long by 18 inches wide, and the backdrop is 1/8" masonite that rises 12" above the foam.

Getting up close, you can see just how abstract it really is.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with it.  I'll let it rest for a week or so and maybe go back and re-do a spot or two that bugs me.  Maybe.

And just for fun, here's the layout with some structures and printed flats in place.  Very much a work in progress.

WOW

It is amazing what the brain will do to fill in the blanks.  Had you not posted the close up pictures I would have thought you pain stakingly panted every blades of grass and leaf.  The depth of the scene and the symmetry you achieved looks like you have been at this for years.

Super!

I tried my hand at backdrop painting and wasn't satisfied with the results.  I really like the way your backdrop looks!

happy little trees - gorgeous

very well done.

An impression of mountains rather than a photograph.  Sweet..  It shows that a model railroad is a work of art in mixed media.

IF

If that was your 1st attempt...I can't wait to see what you do next time. Great use of color to control depth of field. I think you did excellent.

Well done!

I know how hard it is to paint a good backdrop and really appreciate the skill and commitment that it takes. I look at model railroading as an art form and the backdrop is an integral part of the art form. I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress on your layout.

Perfect

Very simple and uncomplicated and still it greatly adds depth to the scene.

I remember the video

and that is a great replication of what was shown. For a first attempt you should be very happy.
