Well here's the second installment, laying out the base foam.

I started by cutting the large sheets down to cover the two main sides and used the left over bit for the middle.

I used an electric carving knife, and it worked great with nice smooth edges. This actually an old upholstery trick for cutting foam cushions.

Glued the foam down with Liquid nails projects adhesive. Shhhh, borrowed the wives books for weight.

Trimmed the main sections with the electric knife.

Installed the middle cross section.

Cut to fit and glued.

I'm pleased with it so far.

Hard board fascia installed.

Hope y'all enjoyed this. Next up is track work...

Era?

What Era and Railroad do you plan to model? Location? Looks like an interesting start.

Era?

Early steam on banana plantations. Limon is actually a town in Coasta Rica that played a major role in banana shipments to the USA with the United Fruit Company. I plan on putting together more information on it as they had at one time a really cool T shaped pier with tracks on it to load the ships.

Fascia

Hi ! What kind of material do you use for fascia ? Thanks !

Re Fascia

I used masonite and had the folks a Home Depot cut it into 8" strips. You have to be carful of the the curve radius because it will only bend so much.

Fascia

Thank you so much. What's the minimum radius without having masonite broken ? I plan to have a radius of 30" but in some places it will be smaller.

Fascia radius

Not sure what the minimum is.

Use two 1/2" strips of the same thickness...

Masonite and using clamps create a circle.  Keep tightening the circle down and measure as you go until you meet your minimum radius.  If it breaks before you reach your minimum radius you are only out a 1/2" strip of the material.  Don't forget you can wet that material slightly as you bend it.  Try some experiments.
