Hi everyone,

for a model builder contest in Germany, I've built a small layout. It's N scale and measures only 18" x 7".

nicely done

As a kid up to college age I cannot begin to count the number of times I rode the "L" alone, try that now and its child abuse. Your street scene is spot on and brings back so many memories. What did you use for the backdrop?

Thank you for sharing

The backdrop is a photograph

The backdrop is a photograph which I bought from an internet agency. I let it print on heavy paper which is used for posters. I then cut out hundreds of windows ;-( Behind the backdrop I glued LED strips on a piece of styrene. Regards, Burkhard

Amazing diorama

Is this a genuine layout, with the train able to run, or a diorama?  Either way, it is absolutely amazing!!!  WOW!

Nice buildings

Hi,

Looks like you've got a few clevermodel kits on there.  Makes sense considering they're from Chicago!  What did you use for the Chicago Fire Department as well as the building next to it?

There are two buildings from

There are two buildings from Clevermodels, Habbaker's Garage and Rudy's Copyshop. The other structures were made using photographs from the internet and Google Streetview. I edited them with Photoshop and printed them on heavy paper. Several layers were necessary to achieve 3D façades. You can find the original structures by searching for Hoosier Mama's Pie Company, Chicago Fire Department 1887, Rosenwald Apartments, 4128 W Madison...

Thanks Burkhard

You do very nice work. I like the way the background becomes seamlessly part of the foreground. I looked at the fourth photo first and couldn't pick the seam. Your blending technique is "just right".

And the night time shots are absolutely stunning.Well done and
