To add to my reply to @jdaley and his final update for his Area H N scale layout in a small space… Of course he's moved on to an excellent Club in Toronto. Again, good move!

However, I hope modeller's living in a tight, small space won't be discouraged. As my blog here represents here https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/condoloft-with-a-model-railroad-12194748 I figured how build an HO scale switching layout in such a space... the dreaded condo. And with great results. We were in a very small condo and with the help of MRH members I was pointed in the direction of IKEA 'GORM' shelving with my 6' x 1' 1/2" with staging tucked behind my work station. And this was in our living room! We have since moved on and my shelf layout currently sits on top of my dresser in a temporary room as we wait for our new home in Hamilton, fully operational with an interchange. And it's light, built with foam core and framing. I can literally carry it with one hand and we had no problems fitting it on the elevator on the move out!

My point is.. we can build our dreams anywhere. With real estate prices, younger modelers and more expensive (but highly detailed equipment) we can make it happen with compromises. THere have been of articles written on this. Lance Mindheim comes to mind.

I'm lucky now to have a bigger space with a recording studio/band rehearsal in the middle! I will be updating my OSCR railroad with the new 'Hamilton' division as i've been silent the last few months.

Happy Modeling, in any capacity of the hobby!

cheers,

Brad
