I just got my hands on a new old stock Ambroid Outside Frame Caboose.  Does anyone have experience building any Ambroid kits--especially this one?  My wood kit building experience is minimal.

Thanks!

Similar Caboose Kit

It isn't by Ambroid, but the kit era and principles are the same (great fun by the way):

Ambroid experienc

Yes I have  built numerous Ambroid and other wood kits. They require a lot of cutting. They take time as any craftsman kit  does. They were originally supposed to be built with Ambroid cement, I use white glue. You just have to be careful about warping. Use weights and Clamps with large pieces..One added hint, use brass wire soldered for any end handrails, not steel glued.0combine.JPG  nderside.JPG ER%20OPP.JPG rter_opp.jpg .

Dive in and go for it!

This was the first or second craftsman kit that I assembled as a teenager more than 50 years ago. It was straightforward - no hidden land mines - and I managed to build a credible model. The old Ambroid kit models look pretty good, even today. Dive in and go for it!

Ambroid Kits

Ambroid kits are very good, I have built many of the HO and O kits over the years. I have not built this one but I am working on the Great Norhtern caboose and the Celotex all door boxcar. I recommend reading the directions, take your time, keep things square. I always used Scalecoat sanding sealer on them before painting, it gives a very nice finish. I had always used Ambroid cement but am on my last tube. I had asked a question here about Ambroid cement and got some recommendations on replacements, you might want to check it. Good luck with the kit, post some pictures of it.
